The Supremes

Lady/Liberty/Lit is delighted to showcase the timely political art of Nancy Calef

In "The Supremes", a 36"x48" oil on canvas, she writes "The Statue of Liberty, a universal symbol of freedom and democracy is on trial before the Supreme Court. Historical figures in the gallery: Clarence Darrow, Thurgood Marshall, Gandhi, Dalai Lama, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King -- Richard Nixon, George H.W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Bin Laden, and Saddam Hussein."

Nancy notes "For many decades, I’ve been creating 'Peoplescapes,' oil, sculptured characters and applied objects on canvas, addressing cultural, political and spiritual issues facing society. By juxtaposing people in recognizable places and situations, each painting weaves together a story about contemporary life, filled with layers of detail, symbolism and humor. I have highlighted struggles with race, global warming, toxins in our food, the corruption in the financial, medical and pharmaceutical industries."

Thank you so much for sharing your powerful work with us, Nancy.
